Water Filter

Clean water has become a major issue these days, with environmental groups and governments both trying to grapple with the issue of keeping our water supplies clean. With these environmental problems that we are facing today, there has really never been a time when a drinking water purifier was more important. Water process of removing contaminants from a raw water source, and with most of the world's bodies of water being as polluted as they are clean water is a major issue today, and as environmental groups and governments try to tackle the issue, we have to make our own efforts to make sure our drinking water supply is healthy and pure. That is where a water filter system in the home comes into play. A water filter system will pre-filter the water that enters your faucet or even your home to filter out harmful particles from your water.

This general process is called water purification, and it is made up of a number of steps. First of all, particles called coagulants are put into the water as it passes through the filter. These coagulants, usually alum and lime, force the particles in the water to form clumps, the second phase of the process Next, the agitation in the water forms these clumps into large clumps that can be easily filtered out of the water. After this process, the water is aerated and disinfected; this final process will remove certain other contaminants like radon.

It pays to shop around for a water filtering system, since there are many different types and prices. One of the first companies you should check with is the Distiller Depot. It has a large supply of water filtration systems, so there is sure to be a choice that will suit you. Some of the systems on offer by Distiller Depot are the Waterite reverse Osmosis System and the AvantaPure Reverse Osmosis System. Chlorine Water Filter - What Makes it So Important?

Chlorine Water Filter - What Makes it So Important?

Water Filter

If you are still consuming tap water, I am sure you are not bothered by the bitter taste your water has. Of course you know it has chlorine added in it, but have you ever wondered that apart from bad taste, what other effects does chlorinated water have? Treat this as a warning call. I am sure after reading this, you will understand the need for a good chlorine water filter.

The story started maybe a hundred years back where water borne diseases like cholera and typhoid were at their high. The quick and effective solution to combat such epidemics was to add Chlorine in drinking water. Chlorine as a disinfectant greatly helped in keeping bacteria away from water. So eventually all the water supply companies resorted to this technique for keeping their water reservoirs free from bacteria. But, the story doesn't end here. If Chlorine is intentionally being added, why need a chlorine water filter?

Chlorine which was added as a disinfectant once, later actually proved to be unsafe for human consumption. It is a known fact now. But still , it was and is still being added in water, not because it is the best disinfectant - but for the plain and simple reason that it comes cheap!

Chlorine is actually a harmful chemical which reacts with other organic contaminants like leaves, algae in water and produces various toxic by-products. Chloroform and Trihalomethanes are a few of them. These by-products stimulate the production of free cells in the body which can be serious enough to lead to cancer. They are also known to reduce fertility and cause miscarriage and birth defects.

Apart from consuming chlorine through drinking water, it is important to note that showering in chlorinated water is harmful too. Not only does it cause eye and nose irritations, it also binds with the protective proteins in our skin and hair and strips them off. Thus making your skin and hair rough, dull and susceptible to other problems like skin itchiness, dryness, hair fall, hair color loss etc.

Agreeing to the fact that we cannot do anything to stop chlorine from being supplied to our taps, the least we can do it is to make sure that we filter it from the water. Look for a good chlorine water filter which is capable of removing chlorine as well as various other contaminants present in tap water.

A home chlorine water filter is also a good option. They can be installed on the main pipe from where the water enters your home. Have it installed and be tension free. Water coming out from any of tap in your home will be guaranteed to be safe and free from chlorine.

Be wise and take a step forward, choose a right chlorine water filter and prevent your family from consuming harmful chlorinated water.

How to Make a Gravity Water Filter

How to Make a Gravity Water Filter

Water Filter

Is your drinking water really safe? Just because it has no odor and tastes fine doesn't mean it is. Many contaminants are too small to see and have no odor. Of course, you can have your water tested and this is the best option to be sure it is safe. But some people still feel their water isn't as pure as they would like.

If you have decided you ought to filter your water but are unsure if it will make any difference, why not make your own trial carbon water filter? It isn't difficult or expensive, and it will give you the option of seeing what carbon can do to improve your water quality.

To begin this project, obtain these items: a twelve inch length of 2 1/2 inch PVC pipe, a 2 1/2 inch cap, a quantity of activated carbon, a piece of vinyl hose, and a paper coffee filter. You will also need a drill and bit the size of the outside diameter of the vinyl hose.

Drill a hole in the center of the PVC cap. Insert the vinyl hose into the hole, making sure it fits tightly. If it leaks, silicone sealant should be used. Push the cap onto the PVC pipe and, if needed, seal it with PVC sealer. Next, fold the piece of filter paper and push it into the PVC pipe so that it covers the hole in the cap.

Add the carbon to the open end of the PVC and pour water over it until it is full. Point the vinyl hose into a container where the filtered water can collect. You may want to discard the first batch of filtered water since it might have washed out contaminants from the project.

A stand can be made with two 4 inch squares of wood, a wooden base and attached upright. Drill a hole in each 4 inch square large enough for the PVC. Then screw the wood blocks to the upright piece and insert your filter. A setscrew can be used in one of the square supports so the PVC does not slide down.

Here are a few things to consider if you make your own filter. First, the longer the pipe, the more water it will hold and the more charcoal it will pass over before exiting the unit. In other words, the longer the PVC pipe, the better it is. Second, periodically replace the carbon and clean out the PVC pipe while it is empty. How often this needs to be done depends on how much water you filter through it.

You may not get a great quantity of water using this inexpensive method, but it will be enough to drink and, if the container is refilled regularly, you can store the purified water for future use.

Are Alkaline Water Filter Systems Really That Good?

Are Alkaline Water Filter Systems Really That Good?

Water Filter

The hunt for improving quality of life has been targeting many areas and water purification has become one of the most popular topics these days. With the huge diversity of filtering systems that keeps growing as technology advances, dispensers fitted with an alkaline water filter have caused a lot of consideration.

Much of it is down to the speculation that by consuming alkalinized water we increase the level of hydration and deoxidant effects to our bodies. There is no doubt that such filters effectively achieve high levels of water purification and by restructuring its chemical components provide either increased alkaline or acid levels in the end product. The use of acid water in cleaning and skin treatment has many benefits and as such is used in hospitals and alike.

The matter with alkaline water is not so clear though. The normal level of pH in our organism borders on the average of 7 (on scale of 1 to 14), which means alkaline and acid are kept at equilibrium. The actual figures in a healthy person lean towards the alkaline side, around 7.40, which is considered a normal level.

The body has very strong mechanisms for maintaining that level. Through the use of the kidney as a regulator and the urine as an exhaust, our organism can quickly bring back pH levels back into the norm whenever necessary. If we have too much alkaline in our system, the kidney releases basics into our urine to compensate. If we have more acid, then acidic substance goes out of our body until the balance is brought back.

In theory and in isolated laboratory conditions, it has been proven that alkaline water can have very good effect on cells, but in reality, because of our body regulatory system, we cannot expect to benefit from such thing. The most likely thing you are going to achieve by continuous consumption of alkaline water is a slight switch in the pH balance of your body, but nothing that is going to cause a permanent positive effect.

Prolonging your life sounds nice, but you should not put too much emphasize on what is strikingly claimed about the effects and benefits of using an alkaline water filter. There certainly are such advantages and many positive changes to your overall health would occur from drinking purified water. In the end, it's better to try and preserve our health than risk damaging it as the latter is a much easier thing to do.
