Air Coolers or Water Filters? Shop to Find the Best

Air Coolers or Water Filters? Shop to Find the Best

Water Filter

Clean water has become a major issue these days, with environmental groups and governments both trying to grapple with the issue of keeping our water supplies clean. With these environmental problems that we are facing today, there has really never been a time when a drinking water purifier was more important. Water process of removing contaminants from a raw water source, and with most of the world's bodies of water being as polluted as they are clean water is a major issue today, and as environmental groups and governments try to tackle the issue, we have to make our own efforts to make sure our drinking water supply is healthy and pure. That is where a water filter system in the home comes into play. A water filter system will pre-filter the water that enters your faucet or even your home to filter out harmful particles from your water.

This general process is called water purification, and it is made up of a number of steps. First of all, particles called coagulants are put into the water as it passes through the filter. These coagulants, usually alum and lime, force the particles in the water to form clumps, the second phase of the process Next, the agitation in the water forms these clumps into large clumps that can be easily filtered out of the water. After this process, the water is aerated and disinfected; this final process will remove certain other contaminants like radon.

It pays to shop around for a water filtering system, since there are many different types and prices. One of the first companies you should check with is the Distiller Depot. It has a large supply of water filtration systems, so there is sure to be a choice that will suit you. Some of the systems on offer by Distiller Depot are the Waterite reverse Osmosis System and the AvantaPure Reverse Osmosis System. They also carry entire water treatment systems such as Paterson Iron Removal System and Stroll Water Deionization System.

A second excellent way to find the perfect water system is too check with Water for Life. Choosing a product from one of these sources will assure you and your family of clean, pure water at all times in your own home. Reverse osmosis systems such as this give your water a clean refreshing taste that is just as good if not better than bottled water, without the additional cost. You also don't have to worry about taking up a lot of room storing large bottles of water.

Just as if you are buying an air cooler, if you do a little bit of research, you should easily find the right kind of water filtering system for your needs, both in terms of the capacity of the system and also in terms of how much you are willing to pay for it.

Chlorine Water Filter - What Makes it So Important?

Chlorine Water Filter - What Makes it So Important?

Water Filter

If you are still consuming tap water, I am sure you are not bothered by the bitter taste your water has. Of course you know it has chlorine added in it, but have you ever wondered that apart from bad taste, what other effects does chlorinated water have? Treat this as a warning call. I am sure after reading this, you will understand the need for a good chlorine water filter.

The story started maybe a hundred years back where water borne diseases like cholera and typhoid were at their high. The quick and effective solution to combat such epidemics was to add Chlorine in drinking water. Chlorine as a disinfectant greatly helped in keeping bacteria away from water. So eventually all the water supply companies resorted to this technique for keeping their water reservoirs free from bacteria. But, the story doesn't end here. If Chlorine is intentionally being added, why need a chlorine water filter?

Chlorine which was added as a disinfectant once, later actually proved to be unsafe for human consumption. It is a known fact now. But still , it was and is still being added in water, not because it is the best disinfectant - but for the plain and simple reason that it comes cheap!

Chlorine is actually a harmful chemical which reacts with other organic contaminants like leaves, algae in water and produces various toxic by-products. Chloroform and Trihalomethanes are a few of them. These by-products stimulate the production of free cells in the body which can be serious enough to lead to cancer. They are also known to reduce fertility and cause miscarriage and birth defects.

Apart from consuming chlorine through drinking water, it is important to note that showering in chlorinated water is harmful too. Not only does it cause eye and nose irritations, it also binds with the protective proteins in our skin and hair and strips them off. Thus making your skin and hair rough, dull and susceptible to other problems like skin itchiness, dryness, hair fall, hair color loss etc.

Agreeing to the fact that we cannot do anything to stop chlorine from being supplied to our taps, the least we can do it is to make sure that we filter it from the water. Look for a good chlorine water filter which is capable of removing chlorine as well as various other contaminants present in tap water.

A home chlorine water filter is also a good option. They can be installed on the main pipe from where the water enters your home. Have it installed and be tension free. Water coming out from any of tap in your home will be guaranteed to be safe and free from chlorine.

Be wise and take a step forward, choose a right chlorine water filter and prevent your family from consuming harmful chlorinated water.

How to Make a Gravity Water Filter

How to Make a Gravity Water Filter

Water Filter

Is your drinking water really safe? Just because it has no odor and tastes fine doesn't mean it is. Many contaminants are too small to see and have no odor. Of course, you can have your water tested and this is the best option to be sure it is safe. But some people still feel their water isn't as pure as they would like.

If you have decided you ought to filter your water but are unsure if it will make any difference, why not make your own trial carbon water filter? It isn't difficult or expensive, and it will give you the option of seeing what carbon can do to improve your water quality.

To begin this project, obtain these items: a twelve inch length of 2 1/2 inch PVC pipe, a 2 1/2 inch cap, a quantity of activated carbon, a piece of vinyl hose, and a paper coffee filter. You will also need a drill and bit the size of the outside diameter of the vinyl hose.

Drill a hole in the center of the PVC cap. Insert the vinyl hose into the hole, making sure it fits tightly. If it leaks, silicone sealant should be used. Push the cap onto the PVC pipe and, if needed, seal it with PVC sealer. Next, fold the piece of filter paper and push it into the PVC pipe so that it covers the hole in the cap.

Add the carbon to the open end of the PVC and pour water over it until it is full. Point the vinyl hose into a container where the filtered water can collect. You may want to discard the first batch of filtered water since it might have washed out contaminants from the project.

A stand can be made with two 4 inch squares of wood, a wooden base and attached upright. Drill a hole in each 4 inch square large enough for the PVC. Then screw the wood blocks to the upright piece and insert your filter. A setscrew can be used in one of the square supports so the PVC does not slide down.

Here are a few things to consider if you make your own filter. First, the longer the pipe, the more water it will hold and the more charcoal it will pass over before exiting the unit. In other words, the longer the PVC pipe, the better it is. Second, periodically replace the carbon and clean out the PVC pipe while it is empty. How often this needs to be done depends on how much water you filter through it.

You may not get a great quantity of water using this inexpensive method, but it will be enough to drink and, if the container is refilled regularly, you can store the purified water for future use.

Are Alkaline Water Filter Systems Really That Good?

Are Alkaline Water Filter Systems Really That Good?

Water Filter

The hunt for improving quality of life has been targeting many areas and water purification has become one of the most popular topics these days. With the huge diversity of filtering systems that keeps growing as technology advances, dispensers fitted with an alkaline water filter have caused a lot of consideration.

Much of it is down to the speculation that by consuming alkalinized water we increase the level of hydration and deoxidant effects to our bodies. There is no doubt that such filters effectively achieve high levels of water purification and by restructuring its chemical components provide either increased alkaline or acid levels in the end product. The use of acid water in cleaning and skin treatment has many benefits and as such is used in hospitals and alike.

The matter with alkaline water is not so clear though. The normal level of pH in our organism borders on the average of 7 (on scale of 1 to 14), which means alkaline and acid are kept at equilibrium. The actual figures in a healthy person lean towards the alkaline side, around 7.40, which is considered a normal level.

The body has very strong mechanisms for maintaining that level. Through the use of the kidney as a regulator and the urine as an exhaust, our organism can quickly bring back pH levels back into the norm whenever necessary. If we have too much alkaline in our system, the kidney releases basics into our urine to compensate. If we have more acid, then acidic substance goes out of our body until the balance is brought back.

In theory and in isolated laboratory conditions, it has been proven that alkaline water can have very good effect on cells, but in reality, because of our body regulatory system, we cannot expect to benefit from such thing. The most likely thing you are going to achieve by continuous consumption of alkaline water is a slight switch in the pH balance of your body, but nothing that is going to cause a permanent positive effect.

Prolonging your life sounds nice, but you should not put too much emphasize on what is strikingly claimed about the effects and benefits of using an alkaline water filter. There certainly are such advantages and many positive changes to your overall health would occur from drinking purified water. In the end, it's better to try and preserve our health than risk damaging it as the latter is a much easier thing to do.

Whole House Water Filters and Home Water Filter Systems - What You Really Need to Know

Whole House Water Filters and Home Water Filter Systems - What You Really Need to Know

Water Filter

The Different Kinds Of Filters

Whole house water filters are connected to the main line coming into your home. That means all the water coming into your home is being filtered. This includes the water that you shower or bathe with, your drinking water, and even the water that washes your clothes. If you want total protection home water filter systems that are connected to your main water line are the way to go. You will need a plumber to install a system like this. House water filters can also come in the form of countertop water filters, under sink water filters, and shower filters, and protect only the water that comes from the faucet that they are attached to.

Why These Systems Are Important

Why is it so important to use these systems and filters to keep your water pure? There are many contaminates that get through city filtration systems and even well water has been found to be contaminated these days. What are the benefits of drinking clean pure water? The body is mostly water; the percentage is 60 to 75%. If the water you drink and cook with, wash your clothes in, and use to bathe isn't clean, your body takes the impurities into your system through consumption or absorption through your skin.

You Need Sufficient Water

Drinking sufficient water every day softens your skins and makes it supple, is good for your circulation, assists your liver and kidneys in removing toxins, and prevents headaches. The crux of the matter is that only pure water can help your body. Water containing toxins works against the bodily systems it should help keep healthy.

The Reasons Are Clear

The reason that home water filter systems and house water filters are important is clear. When all of your water outlets are protected then your water is completely cleaned and that is the job of filter systems and water filters. When you get them installed you are assured of having clean safe water.

Best Quality - Best Prices

If you want the best quality home water filters check with Consumers Digest. They rate the best filters every year. If you know where to look on the Internet you can buy the best rated filters direct from the manufacturer for big savings.

Fish Gasping For Air In The BP Gulf Oil Spill Waters- Marine Life Doomed

Fish Gasping For Air In The BP Gulf Oil Spill Waters- Marine Life Doomed On YouTube.

This is the nail in the coffin for marine life! The ocean world is one big food chain. Marine creatures have symbiotic (mutually beneficial) relationships. The bottom of that chain are the filter feeders. The filter feeders (also known as suspension feeders) are animals that feed by straining suspended matter and food particles from water, typically by passing the water over a specialized filtering structure. Some animals that use this method of feeding are corals, clams, krill, sponges, some fish and sharks, and baleen whales. If a sponge becomes heavily covered with sand, it will be unable to feed and therefore die. Some might think the world could live without sponges and the likes, but this is just ONE link in the food chain. When the least of the marine life starts to die, EVERYTHING starts to die. The chain is broken. BP's continued use of toxic dispersants to "sink" the oil from the surface is MARINE GENOCIDE! The ONLY way the oil can be REMOVED...not just "hidden out of sight"...will be to keep it on the surface. Eventually Mother Earth will break down all the oil on the Gulf of Mexico sea bed...even your grandchildren will not live long enough to witness it. This is an ENVIORNMENTAL DISASTER of the NTH DEGREE. When are people going to catch on to this? Since sponges pass large amounts of water and tend to take in lots of particles, filter feeders are often used as environmental monitors - if something in the water goes bad, often the filter feeders are the first ...

Product Brand : Crystal Quest

Crystal Quest CQE-WH-01179 Whole House Tannin 1.5 Water Filter System

Crystal Quest CQE-WH-01179 Whole House Tannin 1.5 Water Filter System
Crystal Quest Tannin water filters are self-backwashing systems that automatically remove the tannins within the filter bed and washes them down the drain. This is accomplished with the microprocessor control valve that is mounted on top of the Crystal Quest Tannin water filters. This valve is controlled by a meter that calculates the amount of water being used. Once the meter reaches x amount of Gallons, it then initiates the backwash cycle that cleans the bed of filtration media and resets it for the next period of filtration. These systems connect to the main line of your home and filters all of the incoming water to it. It requires a nearby power outlet for the control valve. Low maintenance. Just add sodium or potassium pellets to the brine tank. It features 3 stages of filtration. In the first stage, water flows through a 20 sediment filter cartridge that removes sediment, silt, sand and dirt which also extends the life of water softeners and water filters and prevents damage to control valves or pumps. In the second stage, water flows through a Tannin reducing mineral tank. Finally, in the third stage, water flows through a 20 solid carbon cartridge that removes volatile organic carbon compounds (VOCs, insecticides, pesticides and industrial solvents). Crystal Quest Whole House Tannin 1.5 Water Filter System also features: a Poly Glass mineral tank filled with Tannin reducing media, Riser style 1 internal flow distributor, a solid state microprocessor with LED display Electronics control valve, Chrome sleeve/jacket - Polyester fiberglass tank and a 3/4 or 1 Stainless Steel Bypass Valve. Design flow rate: 11 gpm. Maximum temperature: 100°F (38°C). Minimum temperature: 40°F (5°C). Maximum pressure: 125 psi (8.6 bar). Minimum pressure: 20 psi (1.4 bar). End Caps: Polypropylene. I could have included the importance of the water used. Water with a high PH value and hard doesn't, in my opinion, make a very good cup of tea although there are blenders who blend to suit. Fortunately my tap water is very soft and suitable. If your tap water has a high content of chlorine then it would be advisable to filter it. You can of course add a little milk and sugar if that is your preference and taste.

Traveling With Personal Water Filters - Make Your Own Pure Drinking Water

Traveling With Personal Water Filters - Make Your Own Pure Drinking Water

Water Filter

An increasing number of people are becoming aware of he importance of good health. They make sure some time in a day is kept aside to exercise and stay fit.

They are also taking steps by following good diets and reducing the amount of junk food they eat. You can also find a lot of people choosing to go outdoors and enjoy nature. It is common to find people taking a hike outdoors or going trekking.

One area many people tend to ignore would be drinking water. Even though it does not seem so, drinking water is a very important part of our diet and care has to be taken to ensure it is absolutely pure.

Tap water is not safe enough to consume anymore. There have been many reports in the news recently as well.

Personal water filters

Personal water filters assume a lot of importance in today's world. People are on the go all the time. Hectic schedules and meetings to attend take up the entire day.

In such a scenario, drinking any available water is not a good idea. In today's world, you might need water anywhere. In the office, your gym, in your car on a long drive, a portable water filter will keep you safe in all these places.

Outdoors

While personal water filters are of great use in the city, they are invaluable when you are going out of the city. Many people today choose to go the outdoors.

Camping, rock climbing and trekking are favorite past times. As a hiker, water is invaluable and the personal water filter is your best buddy.

Every hiker will tell you carrying water is a huge hassle as it weighs a lot. Drinking water from unknown streams is extremely dangerous, as nobody knows what contaminants were added upstream.

If you have a personal water filter, you can purify all the water you need with ease. You do not have to lug around huge water bottles that weigh down your backpack. As long as you are close to some source of water, you have an endless supply of safe drinking water.

Travel

Personal water filters are a great help when people travel as well. Many people choose to go to many developing countries where water purification is not up to the standard.

You cannot take a risk by tasting their water. You are traveling and cannot afford the risk. The simple solution is to carry a portable filter.

Activated Carbon Water Filters Rock

Activated Carbon Water Filters Rock

Water Filter

An activated carbon water filter is primarily designed for the removal of chlorine from our drinking water, which is far more important than many people seem to realize. Many scientists and medical professionals now believe that the historic jump in cancer cases over the last century is primarily due to chlorine ingestion.

The truth is that activated carbon filters will remove far more chemical contaminants from your drinking water than just chlorine alone, and that is a good thing because in addition to chlorine there have been 2,100 other identified cancer causing agents that have been discovered in our water supply.

The reason that an activated carbon water filter for the home is necessary is that the water treatment facilities equipment is so dilapidated and out of date that there is almost no possibility that they can simply be overhauled in order to render them capable of eliminating these toxins from our drinking water.

The likelihood of these treatment facilities being gutted and re-fit with the modern equipment that they need in order for them to be able to effectively clean our water is extremely low, especially with our economy in the state that it is in. so it looks as though activated carbon filters are our only answer, but they alone cannot guarantee us pure water.

An activated carbon water filter is capable of effectively blocking most of the chemical contaminants that we face, but it cannot block every single one of them. That is why it is necessary to complement your carbon filter with what is known as a multi media block. Between the two of these filters you will be safe from 99.99% of all present chemical contaminants.

However activated carbon filters and multi media blocks are not the only protection that you will need to have in your water purification unit if you want for your water to be truly safe. There are also biological contaminants in your drinking water that are impervious to the chlorination disinfection process.

To an activated carbon water filter should also be added a sub micron filter. What this filter does is that it acts to remove all of the parasites and cysts from your drinking water, thereby guaranteeing that you and your family will be kept safe from the ravages of any waterborne disease that may be present.

Activated carbon filters could be a real life saver for both you and your family, but remember that the other featured filters are equally important as a way of protecting your family's health. The best thing that you can do in order to ensure that you are safe from the many toxins in your drinking water is to install an activated carbon water filter today.

Water Purifier Reviews - What's The Best Way To Filter Drinking Water Effectively?

Water Purifier Reviews - What's The Best Way To Filter Drinking Water Effectively?

Water Filter

According to several water purifier reviews we've conducted, there are many different systems out there that do not live up to their hype. While just about any type of filtration system will remove some unwanted elements from your drinking supply, some will definitely do the job more efficiently and more effectively than others.

One water purifier review focused on distillation and reverse osmosis systems. Distilling is an old process of heating H20 into a steam, which boils away impurities, then converting the steam back to liquid. Unfortunately, some chemicals and diseases are not removed and end up in the drinking supply. Reverse osmosis forces H20 through a fine membrane: the problem is that many chemicals are molecularly smaller than water, therefore are not strained out. Both systems are also slow-yield, hard to maintain, and expensive. Additionally, they both remove important minerals such as potassium and calcium.

Other water purifier reviews focused on the most popular filtration medium: carbon. Most of the best H20 treatment systems employ activated carbon. It works through the process known as adsorption where liquids and dissolved solids adhere to the surface of a solid medium (carbon).

Yet, a water purifier review discovered that not all carbon-based treatment products are alike. If a product contains low levels of activated carbon or the carbon is not exposed to H20 very long, some contaminated elements can end up in the drinking supply. Also, these types of filters are most effective when they are first being used. Over time, the filter will become clogged, and its filtration abilities will lessen. Additionally, bacteria can grow in carbon, we discovered during another one of our water purifier reviews, so using a carbon filter too long and you can actually be adding contaminants to your glass.

Overall, carbon filters remain the best mechanisms for treating your drinking supply. However, since they are not 100% effective, a water purifier review of ours found that they are best used as part of a multi-step process which is able to remove all impurities from H20 and change it so that it is even more beneficial.

Our water purifier reviews found that H20 treatment systems that contain at least two separate filters with at least one being carbon, are the best for removing all chemicals and stray bits of sediment. If the first filter misses one contaminant, the second filter is there to catch it. Typically the first filter is there to catch larger particles while the second filter removes smaller elements and pathogens.

This makes safe, pure drinking liquid, but there are additional ways you can ensure that what you are drinking is as beneficial as it can be to you. One water purifier review found that some systems work an ion exchange, replacing lead ions with the beneficial mineral potassium. Other studies discovered that an ionizing water filter produces alkaline H20 which is full of oxygen and extra electrons for fighting free radicals and acidic H20 which is excellent for external cleansing.

In all of our water purifier reviews, we found overwhelmingly that carbon-based filters worked best in conjunction with other steps that removed everything that should not be in your glass and added all the things that should be there to improve your health.

Crystal Quest Water Filters Review - Get the Unbiased Truth Now

Crystal Quest Water Filters Review - Get the Unbiased Truth Now

Water Filter

How good are Crystal Quest Water Filters when you put them up against the larger and more popular companies? This is definitely not the first purifier company that comes to mind, so how good are they?

They are well known for their counter top purifiers. However, they also sell pitcher and faucet purifiers. They range in price from twenty seven to one hundred and thirty dollars, depending on which website you get them from. In other words, they are among the cheapest filters out there.

The twenty eight dollar pitcher Crystal Quest Water Filter is one of their more basic models, but this is still quite effective at purifying your water supply. It takes out over ninety nine percent of the chlorine, probably the most important element that needs to go.

It comes in a sleek small filter that goes well in any refrigerator, as it doesn't take up much room, and is able to purify two thousand gallons of water before needing replacement. Depending on your home size, this will probably last you for a half to a full year.

It is also capable of dramatically lowering the iron, mercury, copper, and other metal amounts, and it also gets rid of most of the lead and aluminum via ion exchange. It is known for also making the water taste and smell better, and lowers the pesticide level as well.

This Crystal Quest Water Filter was rated by a popular review magazine as the top purifier for two straight years, and if you are in the market for a water pitcher purifier, this definitely is one you might consider. It will not only save you money but save you the hassle of installing the purifier as well.

Of course, it won't do nearly as thorough a job as a faucet purifier or whole house model would, but if you just want a basic filter to improve the taste and smell, then this should do the trick.

The countertop water purifier is another popular model they sell. This one is made of stainless steel, and not only does it work well with your interior design (it needs to since it will be situated on the counter) but it's very simple to get set up, which can't be said for many purifiers today.

The filter will last you a long time, and you won't have to worry about constantly replacing it, like you would have t o with some models. It is capable of lasting you as much s ten thousand gallons before needing replacement.

The estimate on their website claims this will last you roughly one to three years, again depending on the size of your home. You can also get Crystal Quest Water filters that are capable of going thirty thousand gallons before needing replacement if you are willing to shell out the extra money.

It utilizes six different filtration steps, and comes with 1 micron filter capabilities. If you aren't aware of it, this is one of the lowest micron ratings you can get. This is good enough to get rid of the vast majority of impurities in your water supply. These are a couple of the more popular Crystal Quest Water Filters to look into.

Do You Actually Need a Tap Water Filter?

Do You Actually Need a Tap Water Filter?

Water Filter

A good tap water filter is no longer seen as a luxury. Nowadays with the alarming reports about all of the contaminants in our water systems, we understand the need to filter our own water. The only issue is what type of tap water purifier or filter to buy. There are several types on the market and a ton of manufacturers. It can all get a little confusing. Hopefully, this article will help guide you in the correct choice. Before we get started, however, lets make sure you actually understand why you need to filter your water.

It used to be that tap water was considered to be pure and clean. No longer! I'm sure you've read the stories about researchers finding everything from prescription drugs to pesticides in our water. A study was done recently on several American water systems that found traces of at least one pesticide in all 29 cities that were studied. One unfortunate city actually had traces of three pesticides in their water. There have been numerous studies lately that have found traces of all kinds of prescription drugs in our water--everything from sex hormones to cancer drugs.

Now, don't be alarmed. None of this is something that a good tap water filter can't handle. It's just choosing the right one that's at issue. To begin with there are essentially four types of domestic water filtering systems, distillers, reverse osmosis systems, ultraviolet purifiers, and carbon/ceramic filters. All of these will work as a tap water purifier except maybe the distillers and the ultraviolet light purifiers. Let me explain.

Tap water has the chemical chlorine in it. That's the disinfectant used to kill the bacteria and viruses in our water at the water treatment plant. Unfortunately, the chlorine has to be left in the water, or it will get recontaminated on the way to our homes from the treatment plant. Distillers don't necessarily work well with chlorinated water, because of the volatile compounds that chlorine can make with organic material. Ultraviolet light won't help this problem, either, because it only kills living contaminants. So, if you're looking for a good tap water filter, you'll probably want to restrict your search to a reverse osmosis system or to carbon/ceramic type filters.

If you're looking for a tap water purifier to filter more than just your drinking water, then you might not want reverse osmosis, either. Reverse osmosis tends to be very wasteful, using up to ten gallons of water to create one pure gallon. If you use a lot of water for drinking and/or cooking, or if you have a family, just think how big your water bill is going to be!

By far the best type of tap water filter for home use combines carbon and ceramic filters. These filters can filter out both organic and inorganic contaminants--pesticides, prescription drugs, chlorine...the whole nine yards.

How Does An Activated Charcoal Water Filtration Purifier Work?

How Does An Activated Charcoal Water Filtration Purifier Work?

Water Filter

The use of an activated charcoal water filtration purifier as part of your filter system is an effective way to clear unwanted material from your water prior to using it to drink, cook, or bathe. Highly absorbent activated charcoal is a commonly used material for removing impurities from water. Because of its effectiveness and relative simplicity of function, any system you purchase should include charcoal/carbon filtration as one of its processes of water purification.

Activated carbon can be found in everything from aquarium filtration systems to pitcher-style drinking water filters to larger home systems. However, the best quality systems will employ a multi-stage filtration process, with an activated charcoal water filtration purifier as the first step of the treatment.

The process works by absorbing certain contaminants in water. Activated charcoal is simply carbon that has been chemically infused with oxygen to create pores that absorb contaminants, and it has been found to be highly effective in removing foreign chemicals and microorganisms from water. A water filter that uses the process of reverse osmosis will not be as effective in removing synthetic chemicals, like the ones that originate in herbicides and pesticides, as activated carbon water filtration systems are.

These systems are especially good at filtering other organic impurities including carbon-based chemicals and chlorine, which is often added to water to kill biological contaminants. In fact, the technology is so good, that the U.S. EPA has recognized activated carbon as the best way to remove contaminants from water. Of course, technology will continue to bring us updated means for purifying our water, but the systems that employ this method are considered highly effective in removing a wide range of unwanted substances from water.

Water filters using activated carbon or any other technology should be installed on all faucets that are used in your home for drinking or bathing in water. Some people's homes offer filtered water in the kitchen only, but occupants of the home often use bathroom sinks for drinking water, so this water should be filtered as well.

Although few of us drink our shower water, we are exposed to contaminants through the absorption of the water into our skin and through our breathing of water vapor that can contain chemicals harmful for us to inhale. For this reason, you should plan to install an activated charcoal water filtration purifier on every shower head in your home.

Activated carbon water filtration systems are effective, but their filters do not last forever. Once the pores of activated charcoal are full of the contaminants they've absorbed, the filters should be replaced. Prices on new filters and frequency of needed replacements vary. Information on the packaging of your water filter or on the manufacturer's website will tell you how often you should plan to replace the filter in your system.
